Mother of three, raped and threatened in Moodubidri

Belthangady, July 20, 2011:A mother of three, a resident of Paddanthadka in Belthangady was allegedly raped and threatened by two men on July 18 Monday; however, she revealed the incident to her husband only on July 20 Wednesday. 

 

According to the lady’s complaint, she was allegedly raped by Farooq and Naushad of Gantalkatte in Moodubidri on Monday, but she revealed the incident to her rickshaw driver husband only on Wednesday.

Reportedly, the lady had lent her gold ornaments to Shamina, a family friend in Dec 2010, who pledged it at a finance company. However, when she requested Shamina to return her gold ornaments, Shamina told her that she had given them to a man called Riyaz and asked her to contact Riyaz, who reportedly agreed to return the ornaments.

When the victim arrived at Moodubidri to meet Riyaz and get her gold ornaments, Farooq and Naushad, who claimed to be friends of Riyaz, called her and said that they had been commissioned to return her ornaments.

The victim believed them and went with them in an auto rickshaw. On the way, the auto driver went home, and one of the two drove the rickshaw. They took the woman to a deserted forest area and allegedly raped her; they also threatened to kill her husband and children if she revealed the incident to anybody. The victim said that she kept quiet about the incident because they had threatened to kill her family.

The victim was admitted to SCS Hospital in Mangalore. Ramesh Kumar, the SI of Moodubidri visited her and investigated the case. The Moodubidri police have now registered a case.

The accused are absconding and the police have launched a man hunt for them.
