Kozhikode, Jan 06: Deserted six year old boy, Sumith re-united with family today, January 7, 2012 with the help of media persons and the police at St. Vincent rescue home at Kozhikode. Based on the information given by Aneesh Balan, the Mangalore Correspondent of Deshabhimani Malayalam Daily, the Kotta Police officials traced the boy’s family yesterday. The mother of the boy was rushed to Kozhikode to claim the boy from the Rescue Home at Kozhikode. The re-union was indeed a tearful affair. The Rescue Home had been taking care of the boy for the past three days.

In the mean time, Ganesh, the father of the boy had reached home at Mabukkula, Kunthapur in Udupi district today morning.

Ganesh slipped out of the hospital in search of his son and was wandering around the city. Hearing his painful story, some people in the city had helped him. He managed to get into the next train to Mangalore hoping that his son would have already reached home.

He had left the hospital without informing anyone yesterday where he was admitted for serious injuries. Police had found him unconscious with serious injuries in the railway track previous day. He was admitted to the Medical college Hospital in Kozhikode. Ganesh had enquired about his son, Sumith when he became conscious in the hospital.

The father –son duo had gone on pilgrimage to Sabarimala on January 1. The incident occurred on their way back from Sabarimala on January 3. It is believed that Ganesh had fallen from the train somewhere between Koilandy and Vadakara railway station. The boy had got down at Vadakara station looking for his father. People and railway employees at Vadakara railway station came forward to help the crying boy and handed over him to the local police. Child helpline workers have taken the boy from police and admitted him in St. Vincent orphanage in Kozhikode.
