Moodbidri, Jul 2, 2026: A retaining wall and a portion of a hill collapsed on the under-construction National Highway near Nelligudde in the Puttige Gram Panchayat limits on Tuesday. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
The collapse was triggered by continuous heavy rainfall, which caused soil from the hillside to loosen and exert immense pressure on the retaining wall built along the roadside. The wall gave way completely, leading to a large-scale landslip in the construction zone.
Following the incident, project personnel rushed to the site to assess the situation and initiated necessary safety measures. As no members of the public were affected, no injuries were reported.
Concerned officials also inspected the site and are assessing the extent of the damage while investigating the factors that led to the collapse.
