Miscreants destroy stone lamp outside Puttur church

Puttur, Jan 7, 2012 : Unknown miscreants damaged a 7-foot stone wall, located outside the Padavu St. Xavier Church in Kadaba in Puttur on Jan 6 Friday.

 

 

 

 

The lamp is located close to a cross outside the church and has been completely damaged. According to the church authorities, miscreants must have attacked the lamp late at night because people kept visiting the church till 8:00 p.m. T. J. Joseph, the trustee of the church, said that there were no power supply in the area on Friday night and that the miscreants might have grabbed this opportunity to destroy the lamp.

Fr. Thomas Kannangal, the priest of Padvu St. Xavier Church, was absent when this happened. He later stated that, when he was informed, he rushed to the church and called the police.

The devotees are in the habit of lighting this lamp during important occasions. Mr. Joseph said that people live harmoniously in the locality and that such things never happened in the past.

 

 

M. N. Anucheth, the ASP of Puttur, said that Puttur police have registered a case.
