Mangalore, Nov 22, 2011: Max Chandra, half Indian and half European, arrived at Mangalore as part of his charity walking tour titled One Step at a Time. 


Interacting with reporters at a press conference held at Press Club on Nov 22 Tuesday, Max said that he first visited India in 2005 and quit his post of CEO at a prestigious UK-based company to settle down in Goa. He established a health and fitness centre in Palolem, Goa and soon got the nickname of Gym Master. Later, Max Chandra founded a charity and set out on his walking tour with the aim to cover all the 28 states of India on foot.


Max Chandra’s walking tour, which commenced on Nov 1, 2011, is divided into 5 stages. During the first stage, Max is taking the coastal route, covering Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Orissa.

Mr. Chandra told reporters that his walk helps him connect with various communities and that he intends to raise funds for charities working for the welfare of the environment. He is trying to raise funds for four children’s charities, including the Dalit Freedom Network UK. He soon hopes to have enough money to organize a vaccination programme for 22,000 children in schools across India.
Max Chandra walks 10 – 12 hours daily, covering a total of 35kms per day.
