Mangaluru: Two youths drown as boat capsizes in Phalguni River, one survives

Mangaluru, Apr 2, 2026: Mangaluru, Apr 2, 2026: Two youths drowned after a boat capsized while fishing in the Phalguni River, while one managed to survive.

The incident occurred at Kunjathbail under the jurisdiction of Kavoor police station, where three youths had gone fishing in a small boat.

The victims have been identified as Ganesh (28) and Royal (27), both residents of Kunjathbail. The trio had ventured into the river around 1:30 am for fishing. However, when they reached the middle of the river, the boat capsized, throwing all three into the water.

Ganesh and Royal, who reportedly did not know how to swim, drowned in the river. Meanwhile, Nithesh (29) managed to swim to safety and reach the shore.

Fire and emergency personnel, along with local divers, launched a search operation and recovered Ganesh’s body by the afternoon. The search for Royal is still ongoing, police said.
