The electrification work on this stretch, up to Shiribagilu, has already been completed. The newly introduced local passenger train on the Mangaluru–Subrahmanya Road route, which was launched in response to long-standing public demand, has seen a positive response since its inception. With its transition from diesel to electric traction, the route is moving toward a more energy-efficient and
environmentally friendly future.

The passenger service operates three times daily—morning, afternoon, and evening—and will now run entirely on electric power. The final diesel-hauled trip was completed on Sunday night, and the first electric-powered journey took place on Monday morning. The electrification from Mangaluru Central to Subrahmanya Road had been completed earlier and successfully tested. The inaugural electric train was welcomed at Puttur station. The transition has been well-received by commuters and public representatives alike.

MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, commenting on the development, said, “This is a welcome move. In addition, as per our request to the Railway Ministry, I am hopeful that the old rake of this train will soon be replaced with a MEMU rake.”
