India, US Strategic Partners With Global Cooperation Scope: Marco Rubio

New Delhi, May 24, 2026: Emphasising the growing strength of bilateral ties, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said India and the United States are not merely allies but strategic partners cooperating across different regions of the world.

Rubio made the remarks during delegation-level talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi on Sunday as part of his four-day visit to India.

Highlighting the unique nature of India-US relations, Rubio said the partnership extends beyond regional cooperation and offers opportunities for collaboration globally.

“The US and India aren’t just allies. We are strategic allies and that’s of critical importance. Our strategic partnership is what sets this relationship apart because it is not simply limited to the region, it extends to offer opportunities to cooperate globally in different regions of the world,” Rubio said.

He added that discussions between the two sides also touched upon cooperation in regions such as the Western Hemisphere.

Calling India and the US the world’s two largest democracies, Rubio said the shared democratic values form a strong foundation for deeper engagement.

“We have so many common interests that makes all the sense in the world for us to continue to build upon. This is not about restoring or reinvigorating ties, but continuing to strengthen what is already a solid and strong strategic partnership,” he said.

Rubio also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday. During the meeting, the US Secretary of State briefed the Prime Minister on the sustained progress in bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Modi said India and the United States would continue to work closely for global good and further strengthen their strategic partnership.
