Mangaluru: Shop owner arrested for sexual harassment of minor; POCSO case registered

Mangaluru, December 8, 2025: Surathkal police have arrested a man on charges of sexually harassing a minor boy and have registered a POCSO case against him.

The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Ismail, owner of Hani Fashion Shop & General Store located near Chokkabettu Jumma Masjid in Surathkal.

According to reports, a Class 6 boy had gone to the shop on Saturday to buy chocolates when the accused allegedly locked him inside a room in the shop, tied his hands and legs with a rope, and sexually harassed him.

Based on a complaint filed by the boy’s mother, a case has been registered under the POCSO Act and Sections 351(2) and 127(2) of the BNS. Acting swiftly, Inspector Pramod Kumar of Surathkal Police Station and his team arrested the accused and produced him before the court. The court has sent him to judicial custody.

It has also come to light that the accused is a local leader of a political party.
