Mangaluru, January 15, 2026: An inciting WhatsApp post urging Hindus to "increase numbers before Mangaluru becomes mini-Bangladesh" has gone viral, leading to FIRs being registered against two people.
The post, made by a person named Ravindra, claimed that behind the Rav and Rav Circle rickshaw stand in Mangaluru, a Bengali canteen had been set up with a board, along with some unauthorized shops operating nearby. According to local sources, illegal activities, including sex work, were allegedly taking place there, but the police were allegedly ignoring it. Ravindra urged people to share the post to inform Hindu organizations and "save Mangaluru." The post went viral, and now FIRs have been filed against two individuals.
The City Police Commissioner stated that some people are posting messages on WhatsApp that could incite attacks on innocent individuals. Similar attacks on Indian migrant workers have already been reported in Mangaluru, and police have acted in those cases. The authorities have noted that the viral post was shared in certain groups. They also checked the background of the family involved and confirmed that property was purchased under their name in 2014.
Police have advised that anyone with information about suspected individuals from Bangladesh can report it to the local police stations, ACPs, or the Commissioner’s office. After proper verification of prior records, legal action will be taken, and such individuals will be deported according to the law.
They warned that any Indian sharing information claiming someone is Bangladeshi—without proper proof or for any reason—or spreading messages that incite attacks on individuals will face legal action. Already, FIRs have been registered against two people for posting such messages, and they will be arrested soon.
Police emphasized that anyone living illegally will face legal action and, after following due process, will be deported without any exceptions. Anyone attacking others, including illegal residents, will be treated as committing a criminal offense, and cases will be registered against them as well. The authorities stressed that the law exists and will be enforced against anyone who disrespects it, strictly according to the state’s legal framework.
