Mangaluru, Feb 2, 2026: The Second Additional District and Sessions Court on Monday sentenced a man to four years’ rigorous imprisonment in a case arising out of a rivalry triggered by an online mobile game, which culminated in a violent knife attack.
The convicted, Sanjay Poojary, had allegedly attacked Pratyush Salian, a resident of Jeppubappal, after being defeated by him in an online mobile game. Nursing a grudge over the loss, Sanjay reportedly attempted to murder Pratyush.
According to the prosecution, on May 17, 2023, when Pratyush Salian was walking from his residence in Jeppubappal towards Nandigudde, Sanjay Poojary intercepted him, abused him in filthy language, assaulted him with a knife with the intention to kill, and issued life threats.
A case was registered under Sections 341, 324, 307, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. The investigation was initially carried out by PSI Sheetal Alaguru and later completed by PSI Manohar Prasad P, who filed the charge sheet before the court.
After trial, the court found Sanjay Poojary guilty and sentenced him to four years’ imprisonment along with a fine of ₹20,500.
