Mangaluru, Oct 10, 2025: In the case of illegal arms recovery, activist Mahesh Shetty Timarodi’s anticipatory bail application, filed in the Dakshina Kannada District and Sessions Court, has been dismissed by Judge Basavaraju.
Since September 27, senior advocate Dinesh Hegde Ulepadi had been arguing on behalf of Mahesh Shetty, while Judith Mascarenhas represented the government. After hearing arguments from both sides, the judge had announced that the order would be pronounced on October 9. By the evening of the same day, the court formally dismissed the anticipatory bail plea. Advocate Dinesh Hegde noted that the reasons for dismissal would be clear only after examining the copy of the order.
The case stems from an SIT search conducted at Mahesh Shetty’s residence on September 16, during which two swords and an air gun were recovered. Following this, the SIT had issued a notice requiring him to appear for questioning.
Due to the possibility of arrest, Timarody had filed the anticipatory bail application in the district court. After lengthy arguments, the dismissal has disappointed his supporters. A High Court petition challenging the previous border-crossing order is already pending, and any further bail applications in the arms case will also need to be filed in the High Court; otherwise, Timarody may have to surrender before the court.
