Mangaluru: MCC orders removal of unauthorised street vendors to ease traffic congestion

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Sep 3, 2026: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner has issued strict instructions to remove all unauthorised street vendors operating within the city limits in a bid to ease growing traffic congestion.

The move comes amid increasing traffic problems caused by unauthorised vending on public spaces, including footpaths. Such activities are reportedly causing inconvenience to pedestrians and disrupting the smooth movement of vehicles, besides raising concerns over public safety. The MCC has received several complaints from citizens and various organisations regarding the issue.

The civic body clarified that only street vendors possessing officially issued vendor identity cards and certificates of vending are permitted to continue their activities. All other unauthorised vendors have been directed to voluntarily vacate the locations where they are conducting business.

The MCC warned that failure to voluntarily remove the unauthorised establishments would invite appropriate legal action. Such vendors will be evicted in accordance with the provisions of the Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act and applicable rules.
