Mangaluru: Leopard drags calf from cowshed, partially consumes it in Yedapadavu

Mangaluru, December 26, 2025: A leopard dragged a calf out of a cowshed and partially consumed it at Oddur Kanthukodi near Yedapadavu in Mangaluru taluk on Wednesday night.

The incident took place at a cowshed owned by Naveen Nayak. The leopard is said to have entered the shed late at night, attacked the calf that was tied there, and dragged it nearly 100 metres away before eating about half of its body and escaping.

The attack came to light the following morning when family members visited the cowshed.

Residents recalled that last month a leopard had lifted a chicken tied in the courtyard of a house in the Oddur area, and a dog was reportedly taken away a few days ago. The latest incident has heightened fear among local residents.

Forest department officials visited the site and informed residents that a trap would be set to capture the leopard.
