Mangaluru, Mar 22, 2026: Doctors at Justice K. S. Hegde Hospital successfully performed a complex surgery to remove a massive ovarian cyst measuring approximately 16.5 x 25.5 x 28.5 cm from a patient with a history of two previous LSCS procedures.
The high-risk operation was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Vijaya M. Revankar from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with assistance from Dr. Poorvika Acharya. The anaesthesia team was led by Dr. Athmika, supported by OT staff nurse Dilja.
The surgical team performed a laparotomy and successfully removed a huge left ovarian cyst weighing 8.3 kg. This was followed by a total hysterectomy along with right oophorectomy and salpingectomy. The procedure was particularly challenging as the cyst had to be removed without rupture due to suspected mucinous cystadenoma, and there were significant adhesions between the anterior abdominal wall and the uterus.
Despite the complexity, the patient recovered smoothly without any complications.
Senior faculty members, including Dr. Prasanna Kumar Shetty K., Dr. Pooja Murthy, and Dr. Avanish Bhandary, were present during the occasion.
Dr. B. Sandeep Rai, Dean of K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, and Dr. Sumalatha R. Shetty, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, congratulated the medical team for the successful outcome.
