Mangaluru, Sep 29, 2025: Amid rain, a large number of runners took part in the third edition of Mangaluru Dasara Marathon on Sunday, which was organised by Shri Kshetra Gokarnanatha temple as part the ongoing Mangaluru Dasara.
The marathon was conducted in three categories - 21K, 10K, and 5K timed runs. Around 1,600 people had registered for the event. All the three runs commenced from the temple.
Participants in the 21K category ran along Mannagudda, Narayana Guru Circle, PVS, Bunts Hostel, Ambedkar Circle, Clock Tower, Pandeshwar, Mangaladevi Temple, Father Muller Hospital, Falnir Road, and returned in the same direction to the temple after taking a U-turn at the Unity Hospital.
The 10K runners ran on a part of the 21-K route and returned to the temple after taking a U-turn at the Clock Tower, while the 5K runners ran till Empire Mall on M.G. Road and returned to the starting point.
Owing to heavy rains, the start of the 21k marathon got delayed by 30 minutes. Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy flagged off the event at 5.30 a.m. The other two runs were flagged off after the 21K marathon.
At the Narayana Guru Circle, a few runners in the 21K category had to run extra distance as they returned to the temple and then went back to run on the assigned route. The 10K runners too ran extra one km.
Hydration stations were placed at the regular intervals along the route. Bananas and oranges were distributed to runners at some points. Ambulances were stationed at vantage points on the route. The police personnel were in position all along the route to ensure there was no obstruction for the participants.
Laidshaphrang Lamare and G. Nandini were declared winners in the men and women category of 21K run, while Shridhar and Charisham bagged the top spots in the 10K run, while R. Mahesh and Nagini snatched the top positions in the 5K run.
