Mangaluru, Mar 19, 2026: Alleging anti-people policies and rampant corruption in the Mangaluru City Corporation, the BJP staged a protest in front of the civic body office on Wednesday under the leadership of its Mangaluru City South and North units.
The party accused the corporation of poor governance, stating that corruption has crossed all limits and the administration has completely failed. BJP workers raised slogans against the state government and expressed anger, claiming that the corporation is not responding to public grievances.
Speaking on the occasion, former mayor Premanand Shetty said that for the past one year, the corporation has been under the control of officials, during which corruption has increased significantly. He added that there has been no response from the civic body to the problems faced by the people.
He urged the government to immediately prioritize conducting corporation elections to ensure smooth administration.
The leaders also highlighted that the city is facing a severe water shortage, while people are struggling due to issues related to e-khata. They alleged that unscientific tax policies have increased the burden on citizens and that mismanagement in the corporation has pushed people to the streets. They further claimed that the government is delaying elections fearing a setback.
BJP leaders Rajesh Kottari, former MLC K. Monappa Bhandary, former mayor Manoj Kumar Kodikal, and others addressed the protest.
Party leaders including Nithin Kumar, Divakar Pandeshwar, Jayanand Anchan, Ravishankar Mijar, Tilak Raj Krishnapur, Ramesh Kandettu, Nandan Mallya, Sandeep Pachhanadi, Shakila Kava, Poornima Rao, Arun G. Shet, Jagadish Shetty and others were present at the protest.
