Mangalore commences fast in support of Anna Hazare

Mangalore Aug 16, 2011: Mangalore has today -16th August 2011 rallied in very strong manner to support the JAN LOK PAL BILL and support the action of ANNA HAZARE. Since early today inspite of pouring rain concerned citizens of Mangalore and Dakshina Kannada have mustered at the gate of DC office opposite the State Bank under a make shift shelter on a slightly raised platform under the banner of "DK Anti Corruption Forum". The citizens of Mangalore are shocked and pained to hear the news that the Government of India has arrested ANNA HAZARE to prevent the fast at New Delhi.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Speaking on the occasion of the fast held in support of Anna Hazare and against corruption, Namdev Shenoy, the 89-year-old Gandhian, said that he had earlier participated in the movement initiated by Vinobha Bhave. Beginning his speech with a song titled “Onde Onde Aagasadhadi Novella Onde,” he said that this is a non violent sathyagraha, following in the footsteps of Gandhi, who also conducted Satyagraha in peace, not by using lathis. 

In spite of 65 years of freedom, the people of India have not got freedom, justice, and peace, he said, adding that everybody should join the fight against corruption if they want to live in peace within the country. 

Recalling old memories, Shenoy said he has always been influenced by Vinobha Bhave and had never taken any pension from the government in his fight against corruption, adding that he will not take any pension from the government in future too. He said that people, irrespective of their caste, religion, creed, and conduct should unite and fight against corruption. 

The country was freed from the British not only because of Gandhi, but also because of those who supported him, adding that the people who do satyagraha must be perfect because those who wear Gandhi caps and cheat others are not eligible for satyagraha. 

Urging people to say “Jai Jagath” instead of “Jai Hind,” he repeated slogans such as “Rajakarana + vijanana is sarvanasha,” “Athmajnana + vujnana is sarvodaya,” “Kaykave Kailasa,” “Hanchi undare hasivilla,” “Teremane illade Aramane illa,” and others and said that, if all people follow this system, the PM will have to implement the Jan Lokpal Bill at the earliest possible.

Among the early participants are T R Bhat, Vidya Dinakar, Dinesh Hegde Ulepady, V U George, Ananda Rao Pejavar, Jyothika Jain, Giridhar Kamath, Rohan Siri, Ranganath Hegde, Bipin Godhani, Walter Mascarenhas, Harsha D’Souza, Rashid Bolar, Loknand Arya Kenjar, K B Shetty, Vedathma vyasa swamji of Arya Samaj and many others too with a good number of citizens. The Press too is ut in full force and with badges and gandhi caps the organizersare set to commence the peacefull and silent fast, a second ’Satyagraha’ for freedom from CORRUPTION all through the country just following the 65th Independence Day of India. The peaceful sit in and fast will be from 10 am to 6.pm.

Citizens will do well to come visit show their solidarity  and support this cause which has taken hold of the entire nation by the heart strings. The Government will do well to be serius about the cause that the common people aspire too in all righteuosness and not curtail the fundamental and constitutional rights of Indian Citizens. This is bound to be a second struggle for freedom which all responsible citizens are peacefully set to support. Your support in some form is necessary.
