Mangalore, Feb 23, 2012: Mangalore University organized its 30th annual convocation ceremony in Mangala Auditorium on Feb 23 Thursday.
CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda, who now holds the higher education portfolio after the death of Dr. V. S. Acharya and is also the pro-chancellor of the Mangalore University, was present and conferred doctorates on Dr. Shrikumar Banerjee (science and technology), Yerya Laxminarayana Alva (social service and literature), and Dr. Govinda Rao Marapalli (education).
Dr. Shrikumar Banerjee, the chairman of the atomic energy commission and secretary to the government of India, department of atomic energy, who was the chief guest of the occasion, delivered the convocation address.
In his address, he pointed out that the greatest challenge before humanity is to develop while simultaneously preserving the environment. He said that global problems can be solved if serious attention is paid to education, environment, and energy.
A total of 44 doctorates, including 13 in arts, 26 in science, and 5 in commerce; 35 gold medals; 57 c ash prizes, and 62 ranks, including 44 in PG, 18 in UG, 33 in science, 12 in arts, 9 in commerce, 3 in law, 3 in education, and 2 in PG Diploma were awarded on this occasion.
Two gold medals, one each on MBA and MCJ PG achievers, were conferred.
