Mangalore, Nov 1: It was a historic moment for Mangalore Today, the one and only English monthly of coastal Karnataka, when its new website www.mangaloretoday.com. was launched in the city on Sunday evening. J Krishna Palemar, District in-charge Minister and State Minister for Ports, inland water transport and Environment launched the new website, which added yet another feather to the cap of Mangalore Today.
In his inaugural address, Krishna Palemar hoped that the new website www.mangaloretoday.com would effectively highlight the culture, ethos and the burning issues of the region. He also had a word of praise for the Mangalore Today which he said has always stood for the cause of environment. Palemar further made a reference to the cover story of Mangalore Today’s latest issue on ’Netravathi River Diversion,’ and expressed hopes that the new website would present the facts before the public, in this age when the public want fast and easy access to latest news and happenings in their town and around.
The different sections of the website were launched by the other guests of the occasion namely N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University, B R Bhat, General Manager of Corporation Bank, Ananthakrishna, Chairman of Karnataka Bank and Sudhir P Ghate, chairman of Magnum Intergrafiks.
Ananthakrishna, the Chairman of Karnataka Bank, in his usual style gave a scintillating and inspiring speech.He emphasised the need for the media to refrain from glorification of news. Any such effort would only be a betrayal to the society, he said. Appreciating the efforts put in by V.U. George, the Editor and Publisher of the magazine in bringing out the beautifully and neatly designed website with a view to cater to the needs of the region and also to Mangaloreans residing elsewhere, he wished a very bright future for the website.
Presiding over the function, Vinay Hegde, entrepreneur and Chancellor of Nitte University, recalled his association with the Mangalore Today Editor and Publisher VU George and said the magazine has always stood for the cause of the district and gave in a capsule form all the news which Mangaloreans,particularly those residing outside Mangalore and overseas, would be looking for. He also said through the website Mangalore Today would be able to reach out to more number of people.
BR Bhat, General Manager of Corporation Bank said he was indeed surprised to know the popularity which Mangalore Today enjoyed overseas particularly in the Gulf nations where the magazine was a favourite and much sought after by people of this region. He aso wished all success to the new website. Highlighting the need to update information and faster dissemination of news, he said the launch of the website is in tune with the changing times when the internet is relied on by most people to know the happenings in the world.
Sudhir P Ghate, Managing Director of Magnum Intergrafiks, said the new website provided a window to Mangaloreans residing overseas to the happenings in their very own city and district and wished all sucess to the new venture of Team Mangalore Today.
Earlier, VU George, Editor, Publisher of Mangalore Today, welcomed the gathering. Mahesh Nayak, Executive Editor, compered the programme.
The website has been designed by Pace Soft, a Mangalore based software company.
