Mangalore, Apr 20, 2013: All India Congress Committee President Sonia Gandhi will campaign for the party in Mangalore on April 25, Thursday. She will also be addressing a public meeting at Nehru Maidan that day, informed Ivan D’Souza, KPCC Secretary and Convenor of Congress Election Committee.
Speaking to reporters at the District Congress Office on April 20, Saturday, he said several party leaders and workers will participate in the public meeting. He further said the Congress leaders will also hold a meeting with police officials on the security measures need to be undertaken in view of Sonia visit.
Speaking on the election preparation, he said that the candidates and party activists have already started campaigning and that the door to door campaign will begin today. The party will release its election manifesto on Monday, he informed.
Union Minister M Veerappa Moily who has completed one round of campaigning in district is back to Bangalore, while senior leader Oscar Fernandes will arrive in city and begin his election campaign in different parts of the district for three days, Ivan said.
The internal differences in the party have been sorted out, and no rebel will benefit the saffron party, he said and exuded confidence that the party will win in all the 8 constituencies in the district.
On the BJP election manifesto titled ‘Vikas,’ Ivan said 23 pages of the election manifesto is a repetition of old achievement. The only difference between ‘Sankalp’ manifesto released prior to the 2008 elections and the ‘Vikas’ manifesto is that the former had the photograph of BS Yeddyurappa while the latter has the photograph of CM Jagadish Shettar, Ivan said.
Congress leaders K Ashraf, Sadashiv Ullal, Ibrahim Kodijal, Hasanabba, Nazeer Bajal and others were present.
