Mangalore, Mar 18, 2013: M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Chief Minister of Karnataka Jagadish Shettar laid the foundation stone for the new building of Government Lady Goschen Hospital on Mar 18, Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, M Veerappa Moily, said that the hospital has a history of 164 years and is considered as the only hospital dedicated exclusively for women and children in the state. He said that the new hospital block will be named as MRPL-ONGC block in recognition of MRPL’s contribution of Rs 2.27 crore for the construction of the block.
The central government is also ready to provide a well equipped Ambulance to the hospital, Moily said. The government has earmarked Rs 25,000 crore for the women’s welfare schemes to ensure that birth mortality rate is reduced to zero.
CM Shettar, in his address said that Mangalore and Udupi will be role model to other sectors, as far as development of health sector is concerned. Speaking about the Vajapayee Arogya Shree Scheme, he said that the scheme was started in Hyderabad- Karnataka for the treatment of poor women.He also said that the state government has implemented Soubhagya Sanjeevini scheme for drinking water.
Sudhir Vasudev,Chairman MRPL and Chairman and Managing Director ONGC unveiled the plaque of Vajapayee Arogya Shree Scheme, Mini Vidhan Soudha project and also Winlock’s new block and Ladygoschen’s new block project.
He said that it was a day of celebration of legacy and motherhood. ONGC is celebrating its 10th anniversary after being taken over by MRPL and has decided to contribute towards the renovation of the Hospital and thus help the poor. MRPL will take steps to shape better life for women and children, he added.
