Mangalore, Mar 11, 2013: Senior Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhan Poojary has said that the results of the urban local body elections in Mangalore have proved that the people have rejected the corruption and favouritism of the BJP and wholeheartedly supported the Congress.

Speaking to reporters at the Congress Election Office at Nanthoor on March 11, Monday, Poojary thanked the public and Congress workers for their support which helped in bringing the party to power in the city.

Hitting out at the BJP for failing to fulfill the assurances given by it while taking charge of the MCC rule five years ago, Poojary said the Congress would see to it that all its promises are fulfilled.” The Congress leaders, during election campaigning have promised the people to work for development and now it is their responsibility to keep up their promise,” Poojary said.

Referring to the failure of the party to get a majority in Sullia, Poojary said still there is the satisfaction of gaining success in majority of the places.

Poojari pointed out that of the 38 wards coming under the BJP MLA’s constituency, the Congress has won in 28 wards, while in Suratkal it has won in 12 wards.

 Poojary said as promised the Congress will not resort to a hike in SAS and water tax during the next five year tenure. A meeting of all the victorious party candidates will be convened and they will be instructed to interact with the people of their ward and redress grievances if any, he informed.

DCC President -Ramanath Rai, MLA UT Khader,
DCC vice president-J R Lobo , Rohan Monterio, Ivan D’souza, Suresh Ballal and others were present.
