Mangalore, Dec 5,2012: Mangalore Urban Development Authority Chairman S Ramesh has said that the initial project report for the first phase of the ambitious Mangala Corniche project was ready and Sulthan Battery, Car Street, Old Port and Morgans Gate area covering a total of 12 kms will be developed in the first phase.
He was speaking at a function organised by the MUDA here on December 4, Tuesday wherein students of Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology University, Ahmedabad made a power point presentation on the development of regions situated on the banks of river Nethravathi and Gurpura.
Twelve students of the University have prepared the preliminary report by making a study for three months under the guidance of the University Head P V K Parameshwaran.
Ramesh said the details pertaining to the project report would be made available to the public in a week’s time. He informed that the estimated cost of the project will be around 3,500 crore to Rs 4,000 crore. He further said even the Urva market and Hampankatta area would see development as part of the project.
Deputy Speaker N Yogish Bhat who also spoke on the occasion, said a ring road to be constructed as part of the project, on Gujarat model, will cover a distance of 30 kms. He also stated that the proposed ring road would connect three national highways, New Mangalore Port and other vital points in Mangalore.
The Deputy Speaker made it clear that caution would be ensured to see that there was no violation of CRZ rules during the implementation of the project .The project would be taken up on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, he added.
N Prakash, Deputy Commissioner, Gulzar Banu, Mayor, Dr Harish Kumar, MCC Commissioner, PVK Rameshwar, Lecturer in CEPT University, were among others present on the occasion.
