Mangalore, Feb 6: Mangalore Catholics reiterate faith with the Eucharistic Procession on Sunday, February 6. It was also an occasion for the inauguration of diocesan post centenary celebrations.

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza , Bishop of Mangalore Diocese offered Holy mass along with diocesan priests in the evening prior to the Eucharistic procession. A large number of Catholic community attended the mass and participated the procession.



Mangalorean Catholics, generally observe the first Sunday of every year to rally together and "Witness to JESUS CHRIST in Peace and Harmony". However this year it was postponed to 6.Feb.2011 for unavoidable reasons. It is a unique celebration every year when Religious and Faithful of all surrounding churches and institutions join together, as one body to honour CHRIST under the guiding leadership of the Bishop of Mangalore, Rev.Dr.Aloysius.Paul.D’Souza, Diocesan Priests Religious and community leaders.
On 6.February 2011, hundreds of people gathered at Milagres Church in the heart of the City at 3. pm and participated in a solemn celebration of the Holy Eucharist marking a reiteration and renewal of faith.
Immediately thereafter a prayerful orderly congregation will proceeded in a solemn procession to Rosario Cathedral. The focus of the thousands of faithful, the Sacred Blessed Sacrament borne reverently by the Bishop assisted by many Priests, on a decorated vehicle. Playing of bands, devout singing of hymns and reciting of prayers throughout the procession.





The procession culminated on the large Grounds of Rosario Cathedral ( the first catholic church of the area set up in 1568) the official seat of the diocese of Mangalore and its Bishop. The Parish Priests of Cathedral and Milagres respectively, Fr.Stany.Goveas and Fr.Walter D’Mello spear headed the arrangements.
The mega gathering, a proof of the strong commitment of Konkani Catholics of Mangalore, led by the Bishop, the event renewed for the NEW YEAR 2011, a spirit of harmony and unity!
