Mangalore, Jan 11, 2012: The Mangala Stadium, which was closed to the public and the athletes, has had a face-lift and is now ready to receive the participants of the 17th National Youth Festival, which is scheduled to be held in Mangalore from Jan 12. The inauguration and valedictory ceremonies of this mega youth cultural event are scheduled to be held at Mangala Stadium.

The platform, which is 5-foot high, 160-ft long, and 65-ft in breadth, is now in its final stages of construction. The spacious dais, raised by the Bangalore-based Raja Enterprises, enables the audience to view everything that is happening on it.

Speaking about the stage, M. Mohan Alva, the chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, which bears the responsibility of setting the stage and organizing the inauguration and the valedictory ceremonies, said that the backdrop of the stage, which is constructed on the basis of the chavadi concept, will feature local folk art and Yakshagana.

Dr. Alva said that an audience of 25,000 people can view the happenings on stage from the seats arranged in front of it and also from the galleries. He also said that the VVIP rooms and the spacious green rooms have also been included to create the stage.

The Public Works Department (PWD) was entrusted with the responsibility of preparing the stage, the Department of Youth and Sports gave the entire stadium a face lift. The entrance to the stadium as well as the lawn in front is a delightful sight.

Dr. Alva said that a media centre with 25 computers, printers, scanners, high speed data lines, and copiers has  been created near the stage. Separate seating arrangements have been made for the VVIPs, VIPs, media, officials, delegates, and the public, he added.

The district administration has also made ready an information centre and a reception centre at the Mangalore Central Railway Station for the benefit of guests and participants.
