Mangaluru: Youth saves calf from leopard attack

Mangaluru, Sep 24, 2026: A youth reportedly prevented a leopard from attacking his calf at Kuttikala in Kilenjaru village near Kuppepadavu on the outskirts of Mangaluru.

Mohan Kumar, a resident of Kuttikala, had tied his calf to graze in a hilly area a short distance from his house in the morning. When he went to bring the calf back in the afternoon, he spotted a leopard sitting near the animal and apparently waiting to attack it.

After noticing the leopard from a distance of around 10 metres, Mohan Kumar threw stones at it and shouted, forcing the animal to flee. He then safely took the calf back home.

The Forest Department was immediately informed about the incident. Officials visited the spot and inspected the area. They reportedly informed residents that a cage would be installed on Thursday to capture the leopard.

Mohan Kumar has urged the authorities to capture the leopard at the earliest and repair the damaged streetlights in the area. He said residents had already requested the gram panchayat to repair the streetlights, but no action had been taken.
