In her complaint, she said that her daughters are under his control and possession and are absolutely refusing to leave his house. Despite her repeated requests, Krishna Maniyani has not sent them home, she alleged.

Leelavathi, who works as a beedie roller and coolie, informed Mangalore Today that her daughters Sathyavathi (20) and Shashikala (19) frequently visited Krishna Maniyani and that later Sathyavathi left her parents house and began living in Maniyani’s house. This happened 3 years ago, and when Leelavathi went to visit her daughter, she did not find her there. When she questioned Krishna Maniyani, he told her that they had gotten her married and that she is happy in her husband’s house. Leelavathi then sought the help of the police with her younger sister Girija.

Leelavathi had first lodged a complaint at Sampya Police Station, but Sub Inspector Anand did not take her complaint seriously, following which she approached SP Dr. A. S. Rao today. Leelavathi has the support of Balakrishna Rai, the president of the Human Rights Federation of India.

The SP has assured the lady that he will investigate the issue.
