Mangalore, Dec 9, 2013 : In a latest haul, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials at the Mangalore International Airport arrested four persons for trying to smuggle two gold bars, each weighing one kg, on December 8, Sunday.
The value of the seized gold bars is estimated at Rs 50 lakh. Apart from gold, officials also seized a cash bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh cash and 9000 USD.
The gold was found concealed in the trouser pockets of two passengers who had arrived by an Air India Express flight from Dubai. As soon as the gold was detected, two others who were waiting to receive the accused were also apprehended.
Those arrested are Umar Farooq (2) and Syed Pakayar Madam(25), from Tekkila in Kasargod, K Mohammad Kunhi and Abdul Nisar from Chattanchal. The latter two had come to receive Umar and Syed.
All the four arrested have been produced before the court.
