Udupi, Mar 10, 2026: Responding to appeals from Kannadigas living in Gulf countries such as Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Dubai, Udupi–Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivasa Poojary met Union External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar at the Parliament House in New Delhi and submitted a request seeking measures to ensure the safety of Indians in conflict-affected regions.
During the meeting, Jaishankar briefed the MP about the steps being taken by the central government to safeguard Indians living in Gulf countries. Considering the attacks reported near airports in the region, the Union government is actively monitoring the situation and taking necessary steps, he said, assuring that there is no need for panic.
Meanwhile, while making a suo motu statement in the Lok Sabha, Jaishankar stated that the central government is taking responsibility for protecting Indians across the world, including those in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar. He informed that 49 flights have already arrived in India from Gulf countries.
Through various arrangements, around 67,000 Indians have already returned to the country. However, communication with Iran remains difficult due to the prevailing situation. Jaishankar said that dialogue is the only solution to avoid war and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is urging the countries involved in the conflict to pursue peace.
The minister also noted that nearly one crore Indian citizens are working in Gulf countries. The ongoing conflict has also created concerns regarding fuel supplies. India is making every effort to promote peace globally while prioritising the safety and security of its citizens abroad. The government will ensure that Indians facing distress are brought back to the country, Jaishankar said in the statement, according to a release issued by MP Kota Srinivasa Poojary.
