MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik to be felicitated for encouraging art

Mangalore, Sep 13, 2012: MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik will be felicitated at a special felicitation ceremony organized by Kalopasaka Captain Ganesh Karnik Felicitation Committee on September 16, Sunday at Town Hall. 

Making the above announcement at a press conference held today, Secretary P. Nithyananda Rao said that the MLC will be felicitated in recognition and appreciation of his encouragement of art. The program will last all day, the highlight being an exhibition of art forms from various artists. 

Secretary Chandrashekar K. Shetty said that the lamp will be lit at 8:55 a.m., after which 20 artists from all over the district will present a wide range of Yakshagana, classical dance, Carnatic music, folk, Hindusthani, and film music presentations. Artist Syed Asif Ali will do an oil painting of Captain Ganesh Karnik, he added. 

Dr. N. Vinay Hegde, chancellor of Nitte University; M. Narendra, chairman of Indian Overseas Bank (Chennai); P. Jayarama Bhat, executive director of Karnataka Bank (Mangalore); Prof. M. B. Puranik, chairman of Sharada Vidhyalaya Mangalore; Dr. Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Educational Foundation; and A. Eshwaraiah, senior art critic, will be present, he added. 

Kumble Sundar Rao, chairman of the committee, said that senior artists from Karavali will present a Bharathnatyam performance. This is the first event of its kind featuring a number of senior dancers performing together, he said.
