Kundapur: Out-of-control lorry jumps divider, falls into ditch at Kumbashi; driver critical

Kundapur, Mar 26, 2026: A lorry went out of control, mounted the divider, crossed onto the opposite lane, and fell into a roadside ditch on National Highway 66 at Kumbashi late Wednesday night.

The lorry, which was transporting laterite stones from Udupi to Kundapur, reportedly lost control suddenly upon reaching Kumbashi. The speeding vehicle climbed over the divider, veered into the opposite carriageway, and eventually plunged into a ditch by the roadside.

Due to the impact, the driver sustained serious head and neck injuries and was immediately admitted to a private hospital in Koteshwar. Preliminary information suggests that the accident may have occurred due to a tyre burst while the vehicle was in motion.

Fortunately, no vehicles were approaching from the opposite direction at the time, preventing a major tragedy.
