Kundapur, December 26, 2025: Shankaranarayana police have arrested an accused for allegedly cheating a man of several lakhs of rupees by promising gold at a cheaper price.
The victim, Gopal, a resident of Chandrabanda village in Raichur district, was allegedly duped of Rs 5 lakh by the accused, Jayaprakash D of Gandhinagar, Challakere in Chitradurga district. The incident reportedly took place on Kamalashile Road in Siddapur, where the accused collected the money claiming it was payment for 150 grams of gold, but later handed over fake gold and fled.
Following a complaint, a case was registered at the Shankaranarayana police station. Acting under the guidance of Kundapur subdivision Deputy Superintendent of Police H D Kulkarni, the police traced and arrested the accused from the Kote area of Chitradurga.
Police have recovered Rs 4.50 lakh in cash from the accused and seized a car worth around Rs 10 lakh, which was allegedly used to commit the offence. The accused has been produced before the court.
