Mangalore, June 28: Indian test cricket icon Anil Kumble received a warm welcome from the people of his native place Kumble on June 27, Sunday. The cricket star was felicitated by the Kumble Gram Panchayat (GP) under the leadership of M. Abbas, the president, and Ashraf Kodyamme, the president of the standing committee.
Kumble inaugurated the Telephone Exchange to City Hall road, which the Kumble GP had laid with interlocks with the help of the local people. The cricket star was later taken in a procession to City Hall, where he was felicitated in the presence of nearly 1000 people. Anil expressed his pride at having born to a family in Kumble and said that he would cherish the event throughout his life.
M. Abbas and MP P. Karunakaran inaugurated the felicitation ceremony. C. H. Kunjambu, the MLA of Manjeshwar; C. T. Ahmed Ali, the MLA of Kasargod; former MP I. Rama Rai; and NRI entrepreneur Khader Teruvatt also spoke on the occasion. The vice president of Kumble GP made the welcome speech; and Ashraf Kodyamme proposed the vote of thanks.
