Krishika Sangha organizes Raita Samavesha 2012 in Udupi

Udupi, Feb 5, 2012: Raghupathi Bhat, the MLA of Udupi, inaugurated the Raita Samavesha 2012, organized by the Krishika Sangha of Udupi at the Sharada Kalyana Mantap on Feb 4, Saturday. 


He poured milk from a conch into a kalasha decorated with fruits and vegatables to inaugurate the event. 


In his inaugural address, he spoke of the importance of encouraging farming activities in the district. Speaking about the damage done by large industries, he said that agriculturists must adopt innovative ideas and the latest technology to make agricultural activities more productive. He also said that Karnataka is the first state to give loans at 1 percent interest for agricultural purposes.

Dr. Varanashi Krishnamoorthy of Vananashi Krishi Prathishtana Adyanaka delivered the keynote address. 


During the conference, the following demands were placed before the government—more funds for agriculture in the upcoming budget, an agricultural college in Brahmavara, easily available high quality fertilizers and seeds, relaxed norms in the provision of loans at 1 percent in nationalized cooperative societies, agriculture insurance and natural calamity funds, Brahmavar Sugar Factory revival, subsidies for agricultural products and equipment, agriculture-based industries, old age pension for farmers, and others. 


They also demanded that the establishment of a cured oil storage unit at Padur must be dropped as it requires lots of agricultural land. 


An agriculture expo formed part of the event, during which a wide range of medicinal plants, plantation crops, fruits, ornamental plant saplings, and others were exhibited. Different types of agro machinery, organic fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, books, and traditional Indian medicines were also displayed. 


Abraham Fernandes of Moodubelle, Vittala Naik Kodangala, Baby Nayak Hirebettu, and Ashalatha Raghavendra Nayak of Shirva were honored for implementing excellent farming techniques. 


B. Y. Shrinivas, the joint director of agriculture, Shrinivas Bhat Kudpi, the secretary of the Krishika Sangha; Suresh Nayak, the APMC president; Ramakrishna Sharma Bantkal, the president of the Krishika Sangha; Ravindra Poojary; M. Bhaskar Shetty; and others were also present.
