Kasargod, May 30, 2023: The police of Manjeshwar station have successfully captured a resident of Uppala who had escaped from their custody 25 years ago while being transported to court.
The person who has been apprehended is Usman Puyakkare, a 56-year-old individual residing in Uppala Mani Munda. Usman was accused of snatching a gold ornament from a woman’s neck while she was walking in the Taliparamba market a quarter of a century ago. During that time, he was arrested, but he managed to overpower the police and escape while en route to the court. Despite extensive searches conducted in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, the police were unable to locate him, resulting in the suspension of the investigations.
Recently, the Kannur Crime Branch Police received new information regarding the fugitive and decided to reopen their investigations. They sought the assistance of the Manjeshwar police in apprehending Usman. Acting on specific information, he was arrested at a residence in Manjeshwar Kedambadi.
It has come to light that Usman had been working at hotels in Kerala and Karnataka. The police discovered that he had been employed at a hotel near Uppala a few months ago. Consequently, the Manjeshwar police handed him over to the Taliparamba station police.
