Kasaragod: 12-year-old boy dies after saree strangled around neck in a swing

Kasaragod, July 22, 2025: In a heartbreaking incident near Fourth Mile in Chengala, a 12-year-old boy tragically died after a saree got tightly wrapped around his neck while he was playing on a homemade swing.

The deceased has been identified as Ummar Farooq, son of Mastan and Nasreena, a couple originally from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.


Boy dies


The family had been residing in a rented quarters at Fourth Mile, Chengala. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon when Farooq was playing on a swing made from a saree tied across a beam inside the house. The saree accidentally tightened around his neck, leading to his death. At the time, his two sisters were playing outside, and both parents were away. The tragedy came to light when the mother returned home.

The Vidyanagar police have conducted an inspection. The family had moved to Kerala three years ago and had shifted to Chengala in Kasaragod just six months ago.
