Karkala : ‘Suicide’ of 12 yr old girl shrouded in mystery

Karkala, Oct 22, 2013 : The death of a 12 year old girl who reportedly committed suicide at Belman on October 21, Monday has been shrouded in mystery. The girl had allegedly committed self immolation by dousing herself with kerosene.

Woman-self-immolation The deceased girl is Sujaya of Indaru in Belman. The girl was under the care of her grand mother Kusuma after her father and sister died of ill-health and her mother went missing. It is said that the girl was found charred to death in front of the house when Kusuma who had gone out to fetch water, returned.

As per the complaint lodge by Kusuma, the girl had committed suicide as she objected to her talking to some youth who used to visit the house when she was away,

It is learnt, Sujaya’s grandmother was a drunkard and was torturing the girl by making her do all household chores. Neighbours also revealed that the girl had dropped out of school while studying in class two at St Joseph School of Belman as she had to take care of her sick sister who later died.
