Mangalore, Sep 24, 2011: The Dr. K. Shivaram Karanth Peetha of Mangalore University in association with University College organized a symposium titled Karanth and Yakshagana at Ravindra Kalabhavan, University College on September 24 Saturday.
Hosthota Manjunath Bhagawath inaugurated the event and said that Dr. Karanth’s thoughts on Yakshagana Bayalata can never be forgotten and will always be debated. Karanth did not restrict the art of Yakshagana to the coastal region, but even connected it with the Russian ballet, he said.
Speaking about Karanth’s views on Yakshagana, he said that his revolutionary ideas were not always accepted by the public, but he had the power to convince anybody.
Dr. Lakshminaraya Bhat H. R., the principal of University College, presided over the event. Dr. Sabiha, the director of Dr. K. Shivaram Karanth Peetha, delivered the introductory address on the occasion.
Dr. Raghava Nambiar, Prithviraj Kavattharu, and Murali Kadekar were also present on the occasion.
