Mangaluru, Aug 31, 2025: ’Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was a brave and extraordinary leader who secured a permanent place in India’s history through his remarkable leadership. We must understand his life and achievements,’ said Health and Family Welfare Minister and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao.

He was speaking after releasing three works of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, translated by Prof. K.E. Radhakrishna, at a function held at Ravindra Kalabhavana of University College, Mangaluru, on Sunday.

Lauding Bose’s contribution, the minister said, “Netaji achieved extraordinary feats in his life. Despite being exceptionally talented and securing the prestigious ICS (now IAS) degree in England after immense effort, he rejected it and chose to dedicate himself to India’s freedom struggle, playing a highly significant role in it. At a very young age, he became the president of the Indian National Congress. Netaji was a revolutionary leader whose writings must be read by all.”

Special guest Prof. Sumantra Bose, Director of the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Trust, Kolkata, and grandson of Subhas Chandra Bose’s brother Sarat Chandra Bose, said, “Netaji was among the most farsighted leaders of India’s freedom movement. Though Mahatma Gandhi and Netaji adopted different paths, their ultimate goal was the same. There has been a lack of literature on Netaji in Kannada, and Prof. K.E. Radhakrishna has filled this gap by translating three of his works.”

Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. P.L. Dharma presided over the event. Author Prof. K.E. Radhakrishna, who translated An Indian Pilgrim (Autobiography), A Rare Diary, and The Indian Struggle into Kannada, spoke in the preface. Scholar Narayan Yaji introduced the books.

BJP Leader Capt. Ganesh Karnik, M. Rajkumar, President, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Trust, Bengaluru and D.N. Shekhar Reddy, Sun Star Publishers, Bengaluru were present. The event was jointly organized by Mangalore University, University College and Mahatma Gandhi Foundation (R).

University College Principal Dr. Ganapathi Gowda delivered the welcome address, Kallur Nagesh (Mahatma Gandhi Foundation) proposed a vote of thanks and Dr. Shama compered the program.
