Mangalore, Oct 11, 2011: Kannada Nudi Theru Jaagrithi Jatha, a procession to create awareness regarding the Kannada language will be held throughout DK on Oct 12 – 14.
Addressing reporters, Kannada Development Authority (KDA) President Mukhyamanthri Chandru said that it will be inaugurated by CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda at Sullia on Oct 12 Wednesday, after which it will travel all over the district.
He also said that the aim of the jatha is to create awareness regarding Kannada language and to encourage people seeking employment in Karnataka to learn it. Stating that the UNESCO has stated that a language dies every 15 days, he said that the jatha is to ensure long life for Kannada.
Regarding the status of classical language given to Kannada recently, he said that this will definitely encourage research on the language and will facilitate the initiation of a Kannada Chair in universities all over the globe. He added that four European universities have already introduced a Kannada Chair in their Indology departments.
He also said that dictionaries are being compiled to provide new Kannada words to the ever-increasing number of words due to scientific and technological developments.
Secretary S. M. Shantaraju and members Mangala Nayak and Vishnu Nayak were also present.
