Mangalore, Aug 20, 2013 : There has been a very good response from lady passengers to the Women’s Special Bus introduced on a trial basis by the KSRTC on the Mangalore-Kasargod inter-state route from August 12.
The KSRTC is now planning to introduce season pass system for passengers of this bus in the next ten days.
It is learnt, the number of ladies travelling in the bus has increased with the passing of each day and daily commuters are seen waiting at the bus stop for this particular bus which leaves Kasargod at 8 am and Mangalore at 6.05 pm every day.
The KSRTC sources said though revenue during morning trips was a bit low, there has been a good collection during evening trips. The average revenue per trip which was Rs 450 to Rs 500 initially has now increased to Rs 1500 to Rs 1600 during evening trips.
KSRTC officials said the process of printing season pass is underway and is expected to be completed in a week’s time.
The demand for a lady conductor in this ladies special bus may not be fulfilled as the bus which leaves Mangalore at 6.05 in the evening halts at Kasargod and returns the next morning. Though a few lady conductors are functioning in the Kerala transport buses on the route, their duty is restricted only during the day.
The KSRTC meanwhile has plans to continue the services of this ladies special bus even during holidays.
