KSCPCR Chief Slams Poor Conditions at Wenlock’s Nutrition Centre

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Nov 9, 2025: Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) chairperson Shashidhar Kosambe expressed strong displeasure over the poor state of the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre for Malnourished Children at Wenlock District Hospital during a surprise inspection on Friday.

Kosambe tasted the food served to children and interacted with parents. He pulled up officials for displaying outdated information on the daily allowance for mothers—still showing ₹100 instead of the revised ₹370—and for failing to maintain proper admission records.

He directed hospital superintendent Dr. Shivaprakash to issue show-cause notices to the concerned medical officers and submit a report to the Commission.

During his visit to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) and Lady Goschen Hospital, Kosambe noted that the SNCU’s 24x7 air-conditioning system was non-functional and CCTV coverage inadequate. He was informed that 28 severely malnourished children have been identified in the district.

Kosambe ordered officials to submit a corrective action report within three days, warning that failure to comply would invite suo motu proceedings and recommendations for strict government action.
