Mangaluru, Apr 28, 2026: The Third Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced Abdul Rahman Suhail, a resident of Mukkacheri in Ullal, to life imprisonment in connection with the 2017 murder of Zubair and the attempted murder of Ilyas.
The incident took place on the night of October 4, 2017, at Mukkacheri in Ullal, when Zubair and Ilyas were talking. A group allegedly attacked them with deadly weapons, killing Zubair on the spot. Ilyas, who tried to intervene, was also attacked with a sword and sustained serious injuries.
Then inspector Gopikrishna K.R. had filed the chargesheet against the accused Abdul Rahman Suhail, Nizam alias Nizamuddin, Tajuddin, Mustafa alias Mohammed Mustafa, Altaf, Asif alias Manda Asif, and Nasir alias Kadappara Nasir.
Earlier, on April 20, 2022, the court had sentenced accused Nizam alias Nizamuddin, Tajuddin, and Mustafa to life imprisonment in the same case. Asif alias Manda Asif and Nasir alias Kadappara Nasir were acquitted, while the fifth accused Altaf had died.
Abdul Rahman Suhail, the main accused, had obtained bail from the court but later absconded without appearing for trial. Police later rearrested him.
After completing the trial, Judge Sunita pronounced the verdict on April 22, sentencing him to life imprisonment.
Public prosecutor Mohan appeared for the government.
