Central team to visit drought-hit Karnataka districts from October 3

Bengaluru, Sep 28, 2026: The Union government has constituted an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to assess the drought situation in Karnataka. The team is scheduled to conduct a four-day field assessment across the state from October 3 to 6.

According to an Office Memorandum issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on September 25, the IMCT will comprise 10 members divided into three sub-teams. Two teams will have three members each, while the third will comprise four members.

The first sub-team will visit Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Davanagere and Vijayanagara districts.

The second, four-member team will visit Hassan, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar. Mandya may also be included to assess water levels in the Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) reservoir.

The third sub-team will focus exclusively on North Karnataka, covering Yadgir, Raichur, Bagalkot and Koppal districts.

The Centre’s decision comes after the Karnataka government declared 177 taluks as drought-affected and announced a ₹1,250-crore one-time relief package for around 50 lakh farmers.
