Mangaluru, Apr 28, 2026: The Nitte Pharma Innovation Centre (NPIC), a unit of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, was inaugurated by Vishal Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University), and Prof. P. L. Dharma, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, on April 23 at the Paneer campus of Nitte (Deemed to be University).
The Nitte Pharma Innovation Centre has been established to facilitate academia-industry collaboration, start-up support, and student training in the pharmaceutical sector.
Prof. (Dr.) C. S. Shastry, Director (Research and Strategic Initiatives), welcomed the gathering and introduced guests from the pharmaceutical industry and academia.
Prof. P. L. Dharma, who was the chief guest, emphasized the importance of pharmaceutical research in advancing modern healthcare. He highlighted the role of integrated research and artificial intelligence in reducing time, cost, and human intervention while improving precision.
Dr. Malar Selvaraj, Country Lead – India, Clinical Operations, Fortrea, Chennai, stressed the importance of effectively utilizing institutional resources like NPIC. She also highlighted the role of curiosity, creativity, and strong professional values in achieving excellence.
Mr. Jatish N. Sheth, Director of Srushti Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, and President of Karnataka Drug and Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association (KDPMA), spoke about the rapid growth of the pharmaceutical sector and said NPIC could serve as a launchpad for innovation and product development.
Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University), highlighted the university’s commitment to student-centric development and said NPIC would serve as a key differentiator through strong industry collaboration.
Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University), in his presidential remarks, described NPIC as a vital bridge between academia and industry and encouraged students to focus on ethical and innovative pharmaceutical development.
Industrial experts Dr. Sunil Chiplunkar, Mr. Kiran Kalwadia, Mr. Hrishikesh Damle, and Mr. Srivatsa Rao, along with heads of various sister institutes of Nitte (Deemed to be University), were present on the occasion.
Dr. Marina Koland, Principal of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, delivered the vote of thanks.
