Mangalore, Feb 4, 2012: Justice N. Sathosh Hegde, the former Lokayukta, has expressed his support of the Supreme Court ruling to cancel the 2G Spectrum licenses issued to 11 companies in 2008.
Stating that the Supreme Court ruling is a great move, he said that he does not consider it as victory of the nation’s fight against corruption.
He said that the ruling has exposed the extent to which the country is infested with corruption. Noting that the union minister had asserted that the loss to the exchequer because of the 2G Spectrum scam is zero, he said that the Supreme Court has proved his statements t be wrong.
He, however, refused to comment on the barring of four space scientists, including ISRO Chief G. Madhavan Nair for their alleged role in allotting rare S-band space segments to Devas, a private firm because it does not come under his purview
Commenting on the delay in appointing the Lokayukta in Karnataka, Justice Hegde wanted to know why the government had proposed only one name for this post. Stating that this move on the part of the government will create a wrong impression among the public, he said that the government should propose at least 2 – 3 more names for the post.
