JD (S) determined to strengthen party at national level

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Nov 20, 2011: Addressing reporters at a press conference held today in Mangalore, H. D. Deve Gowda, the former prime minister and JD(S) chief, said that the party will be strengthened throughout the country because he will be campaigning in all 30 districts and nominating candidates in all constituencies. Deve Gowda had stopped at Mangalore for a brief period when he was on his way to Udupi to participate at a JD(S) convention in Kaup.

Criticizing the BJP and the Congress, Deve Gowda said that both are equally corrupt. In response to a reporter’s query regarding DVS, he said that he is not sure that DVS is functioning in full freedom. Hinting that the political scenario all over the country is about to change, he said that so far not a single party could form a government with majority at the centre and that the coalition era commenced at the national level during the time of V. P. Singh. Coalition is required either before election or after it in order to form the government, he added.

Stating that he had suggested that JD (S) candidates should not be nominated for Bellary and Koppal by-elections because BJP was in an advantageous position, he said that he aims to make his party strong at the grass-root levels.

Responding to a query on illegal mining, he said that there were complaints against S. M. Krishna when Kumaraswamy was in power and that these complaints were included in the party’s election manifesto in 2004. He said that the party’s request to form a special court to investigate the case went ignored.

JD (S) activists Y. S. V. Datta, Mohammed Kunhi, Deviprasad Shetty, M. B. Sadashiva, and Vasanth Poojary were also present.
