Indian Navy displays INS Trinkat and INS Jamuna as part of NYF

Mangalore, Jan 14, 2012  : The Indian Navy will display two of its naval vessels INS Trinkat and INS Jamuna in the New Mangalore Port till the evening of January 14 so that the public can view them. The public can view these ships at Berth No. 1 and Berth No. 7, respectively.

INS Jamuna is the fifth of a number of survey vessels designed and constructed indigenously in India. The ship comprises sophisticated oceanographic and survey equipment, which can be used in a wide range of hydrographic surveys. It comprises 4 survey motor boats and a Chatak helicopter, which can be used in search and rescue operations.

The ship collects data that can be used to create electronic navigation charts. The ship has a staff of 160 sailors and 15 officers and is commanded by Commander B. K. Prasanna, who was born in Mangalore and studied at St. Aloysius College. 

INS Jamuna participated in Operation Vijay at Kargil and was awarded the Mention in Dispatches.

INS Trinkat is equipped with sensors and modern weapons required to guard the coastline. With a staff of 40 sailors and 4 officers, the ship has been used in a number of anti piracy operations. The commander of this Naval vessel is Vivek Madhwal.
