Mangaluru, Aug 15, 2025: Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has called upon religious leaders of temples, mosques, and churches to create awareness among people at their respective places of worship on maintaining peace and harmony in the district. He stressed that development is possible only through unity and urged the public to embrace this message.
He was speaking after hoisting the national flag and addressing the gathering at the 79th Independence Day celebrations held at Nehru Maidan, which featured an impressive parade.
The minister appealed to artistes in fields like art, theatre, and Yakshagana to focus more on conveying messages of harmony. He urged everyone to work together for the all-round development of the district without giving room for violence. Paying tribute to all the great souls who sacrificed for the nation’s freedom, he said it is the duty of every Indian to honour them.
The ideals of those who fought for the country should inspire the younger generation, he said, adding that for India to become a vibrant and progressive nation, there must be an awareness of Indian identity, the country’s grandeur, divinity, and purity, along with patriotism and national pride.
He assured that the police department has been given complete responsibility to maintain peace and order without allowing any external pressure in the district. Peace and harmony meetings have been held with elected representatives and leaders from various fields to understand the root causes of communal incidents, and several measures have been initiated based on the consensus reached in these discussions.
The celebrations featured disciplined marches by police contingents, armed reserve forces, KSRP, NCC, Scouts and Guides, and students of the Bharat Seva Dal.
